On October 25th 2009 we had a Waves runner in the

BUPA Great South Run 2009

There were 21,000 runners on the fast, flat course through Southsea, Portsmouth, passing Britain's naval heritage, including HMS Victory and the Mary Rose. This is Europe's leading 10 mile road race, and was televised live on Channel 5.

Richard Jones and his family sponsor and correspond with a student, Francis, through the Waves Secondary Education Sponsorship Scheme. The scheme supports academically able, needy children from the Nairobi slums through 4 years of secondary education. Richard chose this Run as a way to raise the funds towards the £825 in school fees required for Francis’s remaining three years of study.

Richard, who ran the London Marathon for Waves in 2007, came 336th in the field of 21,000 – a truly impressive achievement!

Richard ran the race in 1:09:25 sec, and has raised £595
